The First Cycle

The socks were placed into the washing machine.

Detergent was added in a measured quantity.

The cycle was initiated.

During this period, I maintained confidence in the containment of the system.

Upon completion, I opened the machine and removed the contents.

The socks were counted again.

The total was thirty-three.

One unit had transitioned to an individual state.

A Brief Pause

I reviewed the interior of the machine.

No additional sock was observed.

I checked the surrounding area.

The floor was clear.

At this point I paused.

The Dryer Transfer

The socks were moved to the dryer.

The machine began operation.

I remained nearby for a portion of the process, though not continuously.

The Adjustment

After the cycle completed, I opened the dryer.

The contents were removed and arranged.

A recount was conducted.

This represented a further reduction.

The system was no longer stable.

The Incident

In response, I introduced a containment measure.

A mesh laundry bag was selected.

It was referred to as a "sock cage."

The remaining socks were placed inside.

While securing the opening, the elastic edge slipped from my hand.

The bag contracted suddenly.

This produced a sharp movement in the direction of my face.

Contact was made.

The sound was brief but distinct.

I remained stationary for a moment.

A Small Development

The bag was secured on a second attempt.

The socks remained inside.

I repeated the counting process.

The total remained thirty-one.

No additional losses were observed during this stage.

A Brief Response

A sound occurred behind me.

This was a short laugh.

It was not sustained.

I did not turn immediately.

After a moment, I adjusted my posture and continued.

Reassessment
